About the role
The Patient Access Representatives are primarily responsible for completing an efficient and organized check-in for patients, ensuring throughput and customer service are top priorities. Excellent customer service skills are crucial, as the role requires collecting accurate information while maintaining sensitivity to confidentiality and ensuring patients are aware of their rights under HIPAA regulations and company policy.
Some positions are designated as essential personnel during disaster situations (e.g., hurricane evacuations/threats), including ER Patient Access Specialists and some Lead-level roles. Responsibilities may vary by location, such as order entry at outpatient locations or scheduling at satellite clinics.
Responsibilities
- Complete efficient and organized patient check-ins
- Prioritize throughput and customer service
- Collect accurate patient information while maintaining confidentiality
- Ensure patients are aware of their rights under HIPAA regulations
- Perform location-specific tasks (e.g., order entry, scheduling)
- Serve as essential personnel during disaster situations, if required
- Promote a positive image of St. Tammany Health System
Requirements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced professional environment
- Strong organizational skills and a professional, neat work environment
- Commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality
- Good physical health, including the ability to stand, sit, or walk for long periods
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; proof of enrollment in or completion of a post-secondary or vocational program may also be accepted
- At least 3 months of previous customer service experience
- Education or certifications in the medical field (helpful for advancement)
- Bilingual skills
