Patient Access Rep

About the role

The Patient Access Representative facilitates all components of the patient's entrance into any Mercy facility, including scheduling, registration, benefit verification, pre-certification, and financial clearance.

Responsibilities

• Schedule and register patients
• Verify patient benefits and pre-certify services
• Ensure accurate patient data is entered into the patient record
• Work with insurance carriers and Medicare guidelines
• Maintain positive relationships with patients, physicians, and hospital staff
• Handle various tasks with attention to detail and accuracy
• Use computers and calculators to perform daily duties
• Perform physical tasks such as lifting and bending

Requirements

• 1-3 years clerical and customer service experience
• High school diploma
• Experience with medical terminology and insurance plans preferred
• Some college education helpful

Qualifications

• Excellent communication and telephone etiquette
• Strong organizational and attention to detail skills
• Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines
• Knowledgeable with various computer systems
• Ability to use a 10-key calculator and computer keyboard

Benefits
