About the Role

This position is responsible for creating the first impression of the hospital's services to patients, families, and other external customers. Responsible for the integrity of all front-end business functions that support excellent patient-centered customer service.

Responsibilities

• Greet and welcome all patients and visitors in a warm, professional manner.
• Adhere to behaviors and conduct that contribute to excellent patient service.
• Ensure complete and accurate demographic and financial information is populated into the electronic medical record by interviewing patients and collecting all necessary registration details.
• Ensure patients receive necessary Medicare/Medicaid disclosures, MSP verification, and privacy information, including education on Charity policy and hospital billing procedures.
• Obtain all necessary legal and financial signatures.
• Demonstrate a culture of safety in daily operations and act as a patient advocate to identify needs such as transportation, interpreter services, or wheelchair assistance.
• Collect patient payments, including copays, coinsurance, and deductibles.
• Verify health insurance eligibility.
• Responsible for calling overhead code pages and drills.
• Coordinate patient transfers to other facilities.
• Interact with patients, families, and physicians as the liaison among members of the healthcare team.
• Request patient medical records at the request of staff.
• Answer the hospital’s main telephone line and redirect calls to the appropriate department.
• Perform general copying and duplicating duties as requested.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED or previous experience as a health unit coordinator, patient registration, or financial counseling.
• Preferred: AA degree, one year of professional experience in a medical field, basic knowledge of medical procedures and terminology, current CPR certificate, or CNA certification.
• Ability to accurately type a minimum of 35 wpm.

• Lift up to 15 lbs.
• Must be able to work on several projects simultaneously and handle frequent interruptions.

Eligibility: Employees regularly scheduled at least 20 hours per week. Coverage extends to legal spouses or domestic partners and dependent children until age 26. Waiting period: 1st of the month from the date of hire.
