Patient Access Rep
About the role
We're looking for a dynamic and compassionate individual to join our team as a Patient Service Representative. Your role will be to greet patients and guests courteously, initiate scheduling, and ensure smooth patient registration and admission processes. You'll also handle financial transactions and maintain patient confidentiality.
Responsibilities
- Create, activate, and complete the patient scheduling, clinic registration, or hospital admission process.
- Gather and input accurate patient/guarantor demographic and financial information.
- Explain insurance benefits and collect co-pays, deductibles, and self-pay portions due.
- Perform financial analysis and inform patients of their financial responsibility.
- Balance cash drawer daily, prepare deposit slips, and follow closing cash drawer process.
- Demonstrate respect and cooperation in all staff relationships and resolve conflicts.
- Adapt to different patient populations and communicate effectively.
Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting.
- Certification in Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM), Certification in Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA), or Certification as a Medical Assistant (or other medical specialty-based certification).
- Proficiency with Windows-style applications and software specific to the role.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to solve practical problems under pressure.
- Excellent decision-making skills and attention to detail.
- Collaborative working abilities and sound judgment in handling difficult situations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Associate’s degree preferred.
Skills
- Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and information retrieval.
- Keyboard proficiency.
- Technical knowledge of healthcare insurance benefits and payer guidelines.
- Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local billing regulations.
