Patient Access Clerk

About the role
The Patient Access Clerk is responsible for all clerical, communications, and data processing activities pertaining to the admitting and registering of inpatients and outpatients to the facility. Responsibilities include proper charging, billing and receiving, statistical recording, financial transactions, and records maintenance/inquiry for all patients. The role requires a positive attitude toward patients, visitors, and staff, consistent with the hospital’s mission, goals, policies, and procedures. Must be comfortable addressing conflict, dealing with strong personalities, and working in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform clerical, communications, and data processing tasks for patient admitting and registration.
- Manage proper charging, billing, and financial transactions for patients.
- Maintain statistical records and patient records.
- Provide positive customer service and professionally manage conflict.
- Assist in maintaining personal and team skill development.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Clerical or secretarial experience, preferably in a hospital or health-related environment.
- Typing skills of 40 words per minute.
- Pleasant personality with strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Strong team player with the ability to work independently.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Six months of medical clerical experience (highly preferred and prioritized in interviews).
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
Pay
Base pay range: $19.68–$26.86 per hour. This rate does not include the overnight shift differential of $6.
Schedule
Part-time, night shift: 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
