About the role

PRN (as-needed) position with flexible scheduling around your availability, outside of mandatory orientation and on-site training dates. Minimum requirement: 2 shifts per month; maximum: up to 3 shifts per week when there is a need. Hours: 9 AM – 5 PM.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner in-person and over the phone.
  • Check patients in and out.
  • Verify benefits and collect copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles.
  • Assist staff and patients with clerical duties as needed, including copying, scanning, and faxing documents.
  • Create and maintain patient files.
  • Screen phone calls and direct them to the appropriate individual; take and relay messages.
  • Provide callers with company address, directions, fax numbers, website, and other related information.
  • Confirm all paperwork is filled out correctly.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the front desk, waiting room, and children’s play area, including housekeeping duties such as emptying trash, vacuuming, mopping floors, and cleaning counters.
  • Encourage a work environment that is friendly and respectful.
  • Provide patients and their families with a customer-focused, reassuring environment that encourages return visits.
  • Follow all HIPAA policies and procedures and all company policies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions and correspondence.
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed written or oral instructions and deal with problems in standardized situations.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a medical office setting is a plus.
  • Familiarity with health insurance and insurance verification.
  • Proficiency with general office equipment (telephones, credit card machines, fax).
  • Computer literacy (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize demands, and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills.
  • Solid work history.

Work Environment

  • Healthcare setting with potential exposure to contagious illnesses or diseases.

  • Physical demands include standing, walking, use of hands, reaching, sitting, talking, listening, and lifting up to 10 pounds.
