About the Role
This is a part-time position requiring 2 shifts per week, including weekend rotation. Shifts are primarily 11a–11p but may also be 9a–9p or 10a–10p. We utilize self-scheduling to accommodate your availability.
The Patient Access Advocate is responsible for greeting patients, answering phones, entering information into electronic health records, and performing general clerical duties. A pleasant, professional demeanor and the ability to multitask are essential. You will perform registration functions, verify insurance, collect payments, and ensure accurate billing information. Additionally, you will handle visit closure activities, provide wayfinding assistance, and maintain a clean, welcoming environment.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner both in person and over the phone.
- Check patients in and out, performing registration functions including updating demographics and insurance verification.
- Confirm accounts have accurate information to ensure clean billing.
- Perform visit closure activities, including collecting payments and any necessary follow-up for patient care.
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits using online systems or direct contact with payers; collect copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles.
- Assist with clerical duties such as copying, scanning, faxing, and maintaining patient files.
- Answer and screen phone calls, direct messages, and provide callers with company information (e.g., address, directions, fax numbers, website).
- Ensure all paperwork is filled out correctly and maintain a clean front desk, waiting room, and children’s play area.
- Perform light housekeeping duties such as emptying trash, vacuuming, mopping floors, and cleaning counters.
- Foster a friendly, respectful, and customer-focused work environment.
- Follow all HIPAA policies and procedures, as well as company policies.
Requirements
- Minimum typing speed of 50 words per minute.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 6 months of work experience in a healthcare setting or 1 year of customer service experience.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Basic understanding of insurance, medical terminology, and billing codes (e.g., DRG, ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS) preferred.
- Exceptional communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions and correspondence.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed written or oral instructions and handle standardized situations.
- Ability to work independently, self-directed, and with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to manage conflict and seek supervisor assistance when needed.
- Daily focus on attaining productivity standards; attendance at staff meetings and huddles as required.
- Familiarity with general office equipment (telephones, photocopiers, scanners, credit card machines, fax).
- Computer literacy (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to multitask and prioritize demands effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 year of experience in a medical office setting.
- Knowledge and skills in health insurance verification.
Physical Demands
- Standing, walking, use of hands, reaching, sitting, talking, and listening.
- May require lifting up to 10 pounds.
- No special vision requirements.
Work Environment
- Operates in a healthcare setting with potential exposure to contagious illnesses or diseases.

Schedule
Part-time, non-exempt position. Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need, with 2 shifts per week including weekend rotation. Shifts are primarily 11a–11p but may also be 9a–9p or 10a–10p. Self-scheduling is available.
