Patient Access Advocate, Part-time Mid shift

About the role
Part-time position with 2 shifts per week, including weekend rotation. Shifts are primarily 11a-11p but may also be 9a-9p or 10a-10p. Self-scheduling is utilized to accommodate your availability. Be part of this incredible journey from the beginning!
Responsibilities
- Greet patients with a smile, answer phones, and perform general clerical duties while maintaining a pleasant, professional demeanor.
- Perform registration functions, including updating demographics, insurance verification, and collection of point-of-service payments.
- Ensure accurate account information for clean billing and perform visit closure activities, including collecting payments and follow-up tasks.
- Provide the highest level of customer service to patients and families during registration and wayfinding.
- Check patients in and out, verify insurance eligibility and benefits, and collect copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles.
- Assist with clerical duties such as copying, scanning, faxing, and maintaining patient files.
- Answer and screen phone calls, direct messages, and provide callers with company information (e.g., address, directions, fax numbers, website).
- Confirm all paperwork is filled out correctly and maintain a clean front desk, waiting room, and children’s play area.
- Perform light housekeeping duties such as emptying trash, vacuuming, mopping floors, and cleaning counters.
- Foster a friendly, respectful, and customer-focused work environment to encourage patient retention.
- Adhere to all HIPAA policies and procedures, as well as company policies.
Requirements
- Minimum typing speed of 50 words per minute.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 6 months of work experience in a healthcare setting or 1 year of customer service experience.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Basic understanding of insurance, medical terminology, and billing codes (DRG, ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS) preferred.
- Exceptional communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions and correspondence.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed written or oral instructions and manage standardized situations.
- Ability to work independently, self-directed, and with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills, including conflict management and knowing when to seek supervisor assistance.
- Daily focus on productivity standards and attendance at required staff meetings and huddles.
- Familiarity with general office equipment (telephones, photocopiers, scanners, credit card machines, fax).
- Computer literacy (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to multitask and prioritize demands effectively.
