Pathology Referral Assistant - Part-Time 20 hours - Mon - Fri 12pm - 4pm

As a Pathology Referral Assistant with Surgical Pathology Services, you will keep patient pathology materials organized, accessible, and moving efficiently between MD Anderson and outside facilities. You will archive, retrieve, track, and prepare tissue slides and paraffin blocks for return, supporting teams that deliver accurate and timely pathology services.

Responsibilities

• Organize patient tissue glass slides and paraffin blocks in numerical order for archive and retrieval.
• Process requests for return or retrieval of tissue slides/blocks from the warehouse.
• File tissue slides and blocks from completed cases into appropriate file cabinets.
• Document receipt or return of materials in the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
• Prepare slides and blocks for mailing to outside facilities, creating labels, verifying cases, and entering tracking information.
• Package materials to prevent breakage and bundle packages for delivery to the mailroom.
• Perform twice‑daily delivery of packages/envelopes to the mailroom or commercial carrier drop box.
• Pick up departmental mail from the mailroom and sort it into appropriate personnel mailboxes.
• Support daily department operations by coordinating institutional and USPS mail.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
• No prior work experience required.
• Ability to satisfy and maintain security and integrity requirements for critical infrastructure as defined in Texas Business and Commerce Code §113.001(2).

Pay

Salary range: $40,000 – $52,000 (midpoint $46,000). Position is non‑exempt and eligible for overtime pay.

Schedule

Part‑time, Monday – Friday, 12 pm – 4 pm. On‑site work location.
