Pathobiology Research Associate – IHC & Histology

About the role

This is an 18-month contract (with possible extension) based onsite in Foster City, CA 94404. The client is an American biopharmaceutical company focused on researching and developing antiviral drugs for HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, influenza, and COVID-19. The Pathobiology Contractor will join the Pathobiology Group, providing laboratory support across research sciences to identify and validate drug targets in oncology, fibrosis, virology, and inflammation using tissue-based endpoints.

Responsibilities

• Optimize and validate antibody reagents for IHC and CISH
• Develop IHC methods and implement process improvements in IHC and other histological techniques
• Develop tissue-based assays to investigate efficacy, mechanism of action, and potential therapeutic targets
• Prepare human and animal tissue samples and perform image scanning
• Work cross-functionally with internal research groups and external collaborators to identify and validate drug targets
• Independently plan, execute, and troubleshoot decisional experiments supporting drug candidate projects
• Present research findings and recommendations to senior staff
• Identify new technologies to increase throughput or enhance understanding of disease mechanisms
• Develop infrastructure, tissue collections, technology, and methodology through in-house efforts and CROs

Requirements

• BS degree with 8+ years of relevant experience, or MS degree with 6+ years of experience
• Direct participation in drug discovery and target identification/validation in oncology, fibrosis, inflammation, and virology research using IHC and other histological techniques
• Extensive experience in IHC, including method development
• Proficiency with tissue handling and organized data entry
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Ability to troubleshoot independently and apply both strategic and tactical thinking
• Curiosity-driven engagement in scientific problems
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Strong collaboration skills in a cross-functional team environment
• Clear communication to diverse audiences in both speech and writing

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with multiplex IHC assays

Pay

$50.00/hr to $57.26/hr on W2
