About the Role

RealTruck is seeking a passionate and driven attorney with 3-5 years of experience in patent law, licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent Office, to join our legal team. This is a crucial role in protecting RealTruck's intellectual property rights by drafting and prosecuting patent applications. Your technical expertise and legal acumen will contribute to safeguarding our innovations and inventions. Core Functions

  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications before the USPTO and foreign patent offices, including utility and design matters.
  • Partner with inventors and technical experts to develop a thorough understanding of inventions and translate technical subject matter into precise, defensible patent specifications.
  • Conduct prior art searches and patentability assessments to inform filing strategies.
  • Analyze patent portfolios, perform freedom-to-operate analyses, and evaluate infringement risks to support sound business decisions.
  • Support IP due diligence for M&A transactions, licensing negotiations, and other transactional matters.
  • Assist with patent litigation matters, including collaboration with litigation counsel and expert witnesses.
  • Advise on patent strategy, portfolio management, and risk — aligned to broader business objectives.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school required.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience as a patent attorney.
  • Proficiency in drafting and prosecuting patent applications.

Required Licenses

  • License to practice law and admitted to the US Patent Bar.

  • Strong knowledge of US patent law and international patent law.
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office.

Travel

  • Occasional travel may be required.

Competencies

  • Familiarity with patent portfolio management and IP strategy development.
  • Experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications with focus on making patent submission easy for engineering contributors.
  • Client-facing experience with the ability to understand business objectives and align IP strategy accordingly.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to advise both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple matters under deadline.
  • Self-starter; Sets and achieves challenging goals; Demonstrates persistence and overcomes obstacles; Measures self against standard of excellence; Takes calculated risks to accomplish goals.
