Position Purpose
The Party Chief is primarily responsible for communicating with the Project Manager and/or Field Operations Lead and client field representative; understanding the needs of the project and collecting field survey data required for the project; supervising field survey personnel.Essential Functions
- Gather project requirements from project manager and field operations lead.
- Communicate project requirements to field team associates.
- Complete daily job safety analysis forms.
- Conduct daily tailgate safety meetings.
- Ensure field crew has necessary equipment and supplies to fulfill project requirements.
- Inspect assigned equipment to ensure proper working conditions prior to use. Schedule routine maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment. Identify and report any equipment failure on work order maintenance form.
- Cook up field work schedule based on project requirements.
- Direct assigned field associates on daily assignments.
- Compile notes, sketches, and records of survey data obtained.
- Communicate findings of field survey with project team.
- Track assigned field team associates’ work hours and complete timesheets.
- Train assigned field associates on survey procedures.
- Report incidents to the appropriate personnel.
- Complete incident report as required.
- Mind work conditions and responsibly use stop work authority.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with clients in the field.
- Perform work in a safe and efficient manner.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervises Instrument Operators and Survey Aides.Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing.
- Walking long distances while carrying equipment, sometimes through rugged terrain, mud, or swamp.
- Riding in a boat.
- Sitting.
- Bending, stooping, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Using hands to operate, handle, maneuver and/or manipulate objects, tools or controls.
- Reaching with hands and arms.
- Using manual dexterity to operate equipment.
- Talking and hearing.
- Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Minimum Requirements
- A high school diploma OR its equivalent plus three to five years related work experience.
- Ability to operate electronic distance measuring equipment and other surveying instruments, boats, airboats, GPS, all-terrain vehicles, and other equipment necessary to obtain survey data.
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to travel for several days at a time.
- LADOTD experience is preferred.
Work Environment
- Generally outdoors and exposed to the weather.
- Frequently exposed to the noise, dust, smells, and other environmental factors present in such situations.
Hours of Work
- This is a full-time, non-exempt position, requiring 40+ hours per week.
- Nights and weekend commitments to the organization, its associates and clients are required.
