Partner 20, Social Media Lead, Frontier
About a16z Frontier
Founded in Silicon Valley in 2009 by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) is a venture capital firm that backs bold entrepreneurs building the future through technology. The firm is stage agnostic, investing from seed to venture to growth-stage across AI, bio + healthcare, consumer, enterprise, fintech, frontier, games, and companies building toward American dynamism, with $100B+ under management across multiple funds.
a16z Frontier is a venture capital fund from Andreessen Horowitz that invests in emerging technologies across AI, biology, crypto, hardware, and more. The fund backs founders building a future no one else sees yet, often long before it becomes mainstream. The Frontier marketing team supports portfolio companies through R&D, engineering, security, best practices, legal and regulatory guidance, go-to-market expertise, recruiting services, and marketing that helps founders navigate the frontier. The team operates as a “direct media” operation — publishing influential industry reports, op-eds, builder playbooks, podcasts, videos, newsletters, and other content distributed across platforms. The marketing team includes experienced brand marketers, communications/PR experts, designers, and editors from established media outlets and in-house content operations; the social media function covers all these marketing areas while reporting into editorial.
The Role
The Social Media Lead is responsible for growing a16z Frontier’s social channels and engaging key communities across different audiences and domains. This person will work closely with the Frontier marketing team to:
- Adapt and distribute existing content pieces into social media posts
- Create content native to social media: clips, campaigns, and more
This spans social media for external podcast appearances and media interviews, investment announcements, events and major industry conferences, editorial content, special projects, and campaigns. The role also involves advising the broader a16z Frontier team (investing to operations) and portfolio companies on social media strategy and profile building. This is a remote role (including West Coast time), with occasional in-office presence required for regular team offsites, conferences/events, and based on business needs.
Responsibilities
- Monitor internet culture, latest online conversations, sentiment, industry trends, and shifts to craft compelling, informative, and entertaining social media
- Strategize and execute hands-on: take ideas to execution, operationalize into processes, pipelines, and content calendars
- Generate fresh ideas through collaborative brainstorming, proposing creative formats, and staying on top of social media trends to prioritize experiments
- Analyze social media platforms data-driven, optimize continuously, and trust intuition for big-picture thinking; test hypotheses around content packages with the audience development lead, evaluate results, and feed learnings into content programs
- Create social content directly and produce with others, including overseeing short-form clips operation (leveraging technical A/V and production vendors) — identifying, adapting, editing, and timing clips and other creative for maximum engagement
- Serve as the online brand voice for a16z Frontier, regularly engaging relevant social media communities and audiences, and identifying/engaging key influencers across verticals/domains
Qualifications
- Direct, hands-on experience owning social media for a high-visibility or high-growth brand; experience embedded in a content operation especially welcome
- Excellent communicator through text, multimedia, design, or memes
- Proven ability to adapt style and voice across formats, platforms, and audiences — thoughtful, smart, accessible, direct, striking the right tone (not corporate, not cringe, not overly whimsical, not staid)
- Experience with X, LinkedIn required; optionally with crypto-native or alt social media tools and video
- Strong command of data — implementing and using analytics tools, regularly interpreting and reporting insights
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and meet multi-threaded deadlines
- Passionate about technology, open source, and emerging domains
- Low ego, high empathy, capacity to collaborate effectively with diverse teams
- Curious and constantly learning about new domains, including latest advancements in science and technology
- Able to both strategize and build hands-on; a doer who operationalizes ideas into process, pipelines, and content calendars
- Always analyzing social media platforms, data-driven but also intuitive, able to test hypotheses and report learnings
- A creator and producer — able to directly create social content and oversee production with vendors
- Able to be the brand voice, engaging communities and influencers across verticals
Pay
The anticipated salary range for this role is between $199,000 - $232,000; actual starting pay may vary based on experience, skills, and scope. This role is eligible to participate in the a16z carry program and various discretionary bonus programs.
