Participant Care Assistant - Day Center

Primary Purpose

Under the supervision of the PCA Coordinator, Participant Care Assistants (PCAs) will provide participants care within the day center, community setting, and in participant homes as directed by your leader or designee in accordance with the participant’s assessment and plan of care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with delivery of supplies to participants’ homes as assigned by the PCA Coordinator or designee.
  • Aid participants with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) in the center.
  • Respect participants' autonomy and dignity.
  • Promote participants to engage at their maximum level of independence during activities.

Qualifications

  • Must possess, as a minimum, a high school diploma, or equivalent.
  • Well-developed ability to show discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Detail oriented with good problem-solving skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with the frail, elderly, or long-term care population.

Work Environment

  • Communicates with staff, participants, caregivers, and other organizations as necessary.
  • Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
  • Sometimes works in emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, disaster, etc.).
  • May be subject to exposure and handling of infectious waste, diseases, conditions, or hazardous chemicals, etc., including potential exposure to TB, AIDS, and/or the Hepatitis B virus.
  • Required to drive a car in all types of weather.
  • Provides care and support for a diverse population of individuals, including those who are ill, disabled, elderly, and may be experiencing behaviors associated with dementia and cognitive limitations within the Senior Care Partners PACE Program and/or center.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Willingness to work in various home environments which may include the following: dust, animals, pet dander, temperature changes, smoke, pests, strong odors, and variations in cleanliness.

Minimum Working Requirements

  • Must have reliable transportation, current valid Michigan driver’s license and car insurance.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be fully vaccinated, or willing to be fully vaccinated against the following communicable diseases: Influenza, MMR, Varicella, Tdap/Td, Covid-19 and Hepatitis B.
  • Willingness to work beyond normal hours and be part of our on-call rotation.
