Part-time Youth Development Advocate

About the role

The Youth Development Advocate assists the Youth Program Coordinator and the Human Services Department in meeting the needs of city youth and their families through community-based wraparound services. They work directly with youth enrolled in group programs and mentoring initiatives, fostering personal growth and resilience.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate structured programming, activities, and field trips that promote academic success and essential life skills
• Emphasize values such as respect, responsibility, and positive role modeling in all interactions
• Provide individualized mentoring, including goal-setting and connecting youth to appropriate services and resources
• Facilitate the after-school program for middle school youth

This position is contingent upon available funding and may vary annually based on program priorities and youth needs.

Schedule

• Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays: 2:30 pm – 6:30 pm
• Other variable hours for mentoring may be available

Pay

Hourly rate: $19

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience/training in youth or family service programs
• Acceptable criminal history, DMV background, CPS background checks, and drug screen
• Valid Virginia Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field
