About the role
The Youth Development Advocate assists the Youth Program Coordinator and the Human Services Department in meeting the needs of city youth and their families through community-based wraparound services. They work directly with youth enrolled in group programs and mentoring initiatives, fostering personal growth and resilience.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate structured programming, activities, and field trips that promote academic success and essential life skills
- Emphasize values such as respect, responsibility, and positive role modeling in all interactions
- Provide individualized mentoring, including goal-setting and connecting youth to appropriate services and resources
- Facilitate the after-school program for middle school youth
This position is contingent upon available funding and may vary annually based on program priorities and youth needs.
Schedule
- Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays: 2:30 pm – 6:30 pm
- Other variable hours for mentoring may be available
Pay
Hourly rate: $19
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience/training in youth or family service programs
- Acceptable criminal history, DMV background, CPS background checks, and drug screen
- Valid Virginia Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field
