About the Role

The College of Veterinary Medicine at MU is on a mission to educate and train outstanding clinicians and scientists, generate new knowledge, engage stakeholders, and foster economic growth, all of which promote and protect the health and welfare of animals and people. The Veterinary Health Center is hiring a Part-Time Veterinary Assistant within our Radiation Oncology Team. This role offers the opportunity to impact the quality of life for patients, their owners, and families in an environment that fosters continuous learning, professional development, and top-notch service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Safely restrain, handle, and transport patients; assist with the collection of samples (e.g., blood, urine, and fecal).
  • Provide care and monitoring of both hospitalized and clinic patients; administer medications and treatments as instructed by clinicians.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked treatment and examination rooms; maintain diagnostic and/or surgical equipment.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to clients both in person and in response to phone and email inquiries.
  • Utilize the hospital information system and other software to perform accurate data entry regarding patient care.
  • Perform basic diagnostic procedures as requested within the skill set of the assistant, consistent with MVMB guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Schedule

This is a part-time position. Hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired.

  • Detail-oriented and well-organized; able to accurately gather medical histories, carry out instructions, document patient statistics, and update computerized medical records to ensure appropriate billing.
  • Enjoy working with animals and have the ability to comfort, handle, and restrain large and/or small patients.

Pay

Salary: $16.00 per hour.
