About the role
BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join their fast-paced emergency department.
Responsibilities
- Triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVM with crafting and going over estimates as needed.
- Perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc).
- Set up and discharge patients.
- Handle client communication.
- Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
- Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
- Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitor therapeutic response.
- Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
- Perform phlebotomy.
- Perform physical exam; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
- Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
- Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
Qualifications
- Current veterinary assistant certification preferred.
- Experience in an emergency setting is a plus.
- Ability to work weekends and holidays.

Weekends and holidays required.
Pay
$19.00 - $28.00 / hour. This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency leveling system.
