Heartland Pet Hospital has been a staple in the community for over twenty-five years, building long-standing relationships with customers and their children. From preventative to emergency care, we are determined to find solutions without taking shortcuts. Our practice offers physical exams, vaccines for dogs and cats, and extensive in-house lab services, including electrocardiogram and digital radiology technology. We provide surgeries such as dental cleanings, tumor and mass removal, spaying and neutering, orthopedic procedures, declawing, and more. Our team also offers behavioral and nutritional counseling, understanding that pet health goes beyond physical performance.
About the role
This role involves pet restraint, triage of incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, and effective communication of treatment plans with clients. You will also assist with surgical preparation, anesthetic management, and other clinical duties. The position requires the ability to withstand unpleasant odors and noises, and may involve exposure to bites, scratches, animal waste, and potentially contagious diseases.

Responsibilities
- Properly restrain pets during examinations and procedures
- Triage incoming patients and assist with emergency care
- Collect and analyze lab samples
- Perform diagnostic imaging, including radiographs
- Provide nursing care for medical and hospitalized cases
- Administer medications and communicate treatment plans to clients
- Assist with surgical preparation and anesthetic monitoring
- Obtain medical histories and process laboratory tests
- Maintain a positive attitude and foster teamwork
- Engage in client education and ensure understanding of tasks
Requirements
- At least 1 year of experience in veterinary assistant duties
- Compassionate, calm, and strong team player
- Ability to multitask and communicate effectively
- Self-starter with a desire to advance knowledge and skills
- Proficient in sample collection, lab processing, and anesthesia monitoring (a bonus)
