Part Time Student - Industrial Engineer - Waterloo, IA

About the role

As a Part Time Student - Industrial Engineer for John Deere Waterloo Works Drivetrain in Waterloo, IA, you will assist in creating and managing sequence-of-events documentation, including output standards used for wage performance pay plans, product costing, and capacity planning. You will work with electronic tools to perform engineering functions, support lean manufacturing initiatives, and participate in implementing new manufacturing processes and technology.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the creation and management of sequence of events documentation, including output standards.
• Work with electronic tools to perform engineering functions, including methods change tracking and report generation.
• Develop plans of limited scope to support lean manufacturing.
• Participate in the implementation of new manufacturing processes and technology.

Requirements

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Ability to work 16–20 hours per week during the academic year and 30–40 hours per week during the summer semester.
• High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
• Registered as a full-time student at a U.S. accredited college/university with a graduation date of May 2028 or later.
• Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above.
• Must be able to commute to Waterloo, Iowa, on a daily basis year-round.
• Experience with Microsoft Office software, including Outlook and Excel.
• Demonstrated written and verbal (English) communication skills.
• Ability to work in cross-functional groups and a team environment.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Skills

• Exposure to Industrial Engineering concepts such as time study, Sequence of Events/Methods, and assembly line balancing.
• Understanding of lean manufacturing principles for process improvements.
• Experience in the heavy equipment, agriculture, or farming industry.
• Experience in project management and business planning.
• Exposure to process and component manufacturing, material presentation, cycles of imbalance, and visual management.

Pay

$15 – $40 hourly based on published rates for business function and education level.
