Part Time Steward/Dishwasher

About the role

The Steward sets the tone for Sonesta’s mission by going above and beyond for guests and coworkers. Responsibilities include cleaning, sanitizing, transporting, and storing pots, pans, china, glassware, silverware, and other Food and Beverage equipment. The role also maintains the cleanliness of the kitchen, storage areas, dumpster area, and back dock according to safety and sanitation guidelines. The ideal candidate has a passion for hospitality and exceptional service.

Responsibilities

• Operate dish machine, clean and sanitize pots, pans, china, glassware, flatware, kitchen equipment, and other utensils.
• Store all clean items in their proper locations, minimizing breakage.
• Clean and sanitize the kitchen and food preparation areas.
• Sweep and mop kitchen floors and other assigned areas.
• Collect and properly dispose of trash.
• Service food for the Employee Cafeteria as specified by the Chef or Kitchen Supervisor.
• Adhere to established safety, sanitation, uniform, and grooming standards.
• Perform other duties or projects as requested by management.

Work Environment

• Fast-paced, primarily indoor work.
• Must tolerate extreme temperatures (e.g., freezers, loading dock).
• Frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, and standing for entire shifts.
• Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and 20 pounds frequently.
• Push and pull equipment weighing up to 250 lbs.
• Flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and variable shifts (days, nights, overnights).
• Ten to twelve-hour shifts may be required.
• Must tolerate hot temperatures (excess of 110 degrees near dish machine) and cleaning chemicals.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a kitchen worker preferred.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Attentive, friendly, and courteous to guests, managers, and coworkers.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong prioritization and time management skills.
• Ability to work quickly without compromising quality.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and maintain high performance.

Pay

$19.29 to $20.00 per hour. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
