Part Time - Sign Language Interpreter

Birch Agency is seeking a Sign Language Interpreter to join our team for an 8-week assignment in the Philadelphia, PA area. Our interpreters design and implement services based on the specific needs of students in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community, offering them an opportunity to communicate and be understood.

About the role

Sign Language Interpreters provide interpretive services tailored to the varying needs and abilities of students, teachers, and community members in educational settings.

Responsibilities

• Provide sign language interpretive services as specified in the IEP
• Interpret information, lectures, discussions, classroom activities, school meetings, trainings, and conferences
• Prepare and study subject matter to ensure clear interpretation
• Adapt interpretations to the diverse needs of students, teachers, and community members
• Provide interpretation for assemblies, field trips, meetings, test administration, phone calls, music, extra-curricular activities, and sports events
• Interpret informal conversations with students and staff during unstructured time
• Participate as a team member for planning and reviewing daily activities, attending in-services, and sharing information to optimize staff and student participation
• Provide staff with information about the interpretation process and the needs of individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing to create a positive Deaf-friendly climate
• Collaborate with Teachers of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing, classroom teachers, and other school staff to provide optimal educational opportunities

Requirements

• BA or associate degree in Educational Interpreting
• Minimum score of 3.5 on the Educational Interpreters Proficiency Assessment (EIPA) or Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification
