About the role
The purpose of this position is to meet the department’s responsibility of providing safe and efficient movement through Transit operations on and off campus. The position operates a variety of Commercial Motor Vehicles on prescribed routes to accomplish this mission.

Requirements
- California Class B Driver’s License with Passenger and Air Brakes Endorsements
- Maintains a non-restricted Commercial Driver’s Medical Certificate (DL-51)
- Valid California Class B driver's license, driving record in accordance with local policies/procedures, and enrollment in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience/training
- One year operating a commercial vehicle while holding a Commercial Driver's License
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply policies and procedures
- Knowledge of traffic laws, regulations, and procedures
- Knowledge of commercial vehicle inspection, including air brake systems, and pre-trip documentation
- Ability to fuel vehicles of all sizes using diesel, unleaded gas, and compressed natural gas fuels
- Reading and interpreting mathematical information from tables and charts
- Ability to communicate with passengers, including interacting with irate and agitated people
- Ability to operate a variety of vehicles, from small buses up to 40-foot sized, in the Med-Transit fleet without physical limitations
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws pertaining to the vehicles operated
- Basic mechanical aptitude to perform routine vehicle diagnosis
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures
- Ability to work independently
Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience/training
- One year operating a commercial vehicle while holding a Commercial Driver's License
- Valid California Class B driver's license
- Valid California Employer Pull Notice Program enrollment
- Non-restricted Commercial Driver’s Medical Certificate (DL-51)
- Knowledge of California Vehicle Code 21113a and UCD Traffic and Parking code
- Thorough knowledge of all hospital streets and parking areas
- Ability to use personal computer and generate reports
- Troubleshooting skills to repair or communicate with individuals assigned to service equipment
- Ability to operate a variety of power and hand tools
- Skills in oral communication sufficient to convey clear and concise information to the public and staff
- Ability to read and understand written materials (such as training materials, departmental rules, DMV Handbook, etc.)
- Ability to read, interpret, and respond to traffic signs and signals
- Ability to perform all job related responsibilities without causing injury to self and others
- Ability to operate a bus for several consecutive hours without fatigue or relief
