About the role
The Security Officer is responsible for protecting the property and employees of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas. This position requires prior training and experience in law enforcement and will work onsite at our Topeka campus. Applicants must reside in Kansas or Missouri or be willing to relocate as a condition of employment.
Responsibilities
- Prevent unauthorized personnel from entering buildings or company property and escort them away if necessary
- Verify identification and eligibility of all personnel entering a BCBSKS building
- Patrol parking lots to ensure safety for employees, visitors, and property
- Check company buildings and property after regular work hours for security and maintenance issues
- Notify and assist emergency personnel (police, fire, ambulance) as needed
- Monitor surveillance cameras while at a desk
- Escort employees to their vehicles upon request
- Notify appropriate personnel of incoming calls by radio or phone
- Report heating, cooling, or electrical issues to the maintenance department
- Issue tickets for improperly parked vehicles or those without a company-issued parking sticker
- Provide expert report writing when documenting incidents
- Ensure the safety of employees and visitors
- Respond to life-threatening situations requiring rapid, independent decision-making rooted in prior law enforcement experience
Requirements
- High School/GED required
- Graduate from a certified Law Enforcement Academy required
- Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum of three years’ experience in law enforcement, preferably within the last 36 months
- Must supply and maintain a personal firearm acceptable to security leadership
- Must demonstrate annual firearm proficiency or within 6 months of employment, in accordance with state law
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Clear, effective communication skills
- Valid Driver’s License
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods, potentially up to 100% of the work shift
- Exposure to various weather conditions such as rain, extreme heat, and snow
- Physically pursue, restrain, or remove unauthorized individuals when necessary, using appropriate force in accordance with company policies and legal guidelines

Pay
$20.96–$26.20 per hour
