Part-time Seasonal Reader - University of South Carolina
About the role
The Office of Undergraduate Admissions seeks Seasonal Readers to support the office in selecting a competitive freshmen class by reviewing applications and making recommendations for admission to the university, the South Carolina Honors College, and for top scholarship awards.
This is a part-time, temporary remote position from mid-October through late February. The appointment may end earlier if office review goals are satisfied ahead of schedule. Seasonal Readers must have flexibility to complete asynchronous training modules and participate in meetings on select days. Total weekly hours are contingent upon application volume and departmental needs but will average about 15 hours per week. Seasonal Readers will not work during official university holidays.
Readers may not currently be employed in another full-time capacity, be employed by another university or high school, or be employed independently or with an organization that provides personal college counseling.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate high school credentials, school profiles, essays, beyond-the-classroom activities, and recommendation letters
- Make recommendations for admission to the university and the South Carolina Honors College
- Assess candidates for top scholarship awards

- Adept at evaluating academic and extracurricular materials
- Value differences in students’ academics and environment
- Bachelor’s degree
