Part Time Retail Associate

Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries is a privately funded 501(c)3 non-profit, evangelical Christian ministry dedicated to sharing the Gospel and helping the homeless and impoverished. We seek applicants who love people, serve as role models, and want to spread the good news. This is a nicotine-free ministry, and all staff members participate in prayer, Bible study, and a lifestyle of prayer and worship integrated into daily job functions.

About the Role

Every position at Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries is essential to fulfilling our Christ-centered mission. Employees must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. Roles may include cashiering, warehouse/receiving/donation attendant duties, or driving responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Uphold, promote, and encourage the ministry’s culture and values, fostering a grace-based environment that advances KGM’s vision and purpose.
• Cashiering:
  • Greet customers and provide friendly, professional service, answering questions about store policies, hours, and pricing.
  • Process payments via cash, credit card, or automatic debit, and verify/accept vouchers from shelter residents.
  • Restock, arrange, and maintain display merchandise, ensuring checkout areas are clean and orderly.
  • Input customer information into the database and express the ministry’s Christian views, including writing scriptures for patrons.
  • Issue receipts, credits, or exchanges (with manager approval) to resolve sale issues.
  • Maintain accurate change in the register and assist in stocking/rotating merchandise.
  • Serve as a positive role model for employees, shelter participants, customers, and guests completing Christian service hours or job training.
• Warehouse/Receiving/Donation Attendant:
  • Assist donors with unloading donations, provide receipts, and input donor information into the computer.
  • Operate a forklift for loading/unloading merchandise.
  • Sort, clean, organize, and prepare donations for pricing and distribution to the sales floor, discarding unsalable items.
  • Maintain a neat and clean workspace, including timely disposal of discarded items to the compactor.
  • Assist with loading/unloading the donation truck and communicate donation policies professionally.
  • Attend training/meetings as scheduled and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Serve as a role model and teacher to guests completing Christian service hours or job training.
• Driver Duties:
  • Become and maintain authorized driver status.
  • Plan and complete efficient delivery/pickup routes.
  • Safely load/unload delivery vehicles and use navigation tools.

Requirements

• Highly ethical with the ability to make smart, timely decisions without constant supervision.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
• Retail and customer service experience preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Forklift certification (training available) and valid driver’s license preferred; clean driving record required.

Working Conditions

• Work predominately requires standing for extended periods.
• Equipment/tools used: computer, register, pricing gun, phone, mission vehicle, forklift.

Pay

$15 USD per hour (Simple Treasures).
