Role Overview

The Clinical Dietitian is responsible for assessing patients, developing personalized nutrition care plans, monitoring progress, and counseling patients and families on nutritional needs. They collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure dietary prescriptions are followed, including specialized nutrition support such as enteral and parenteral feeding.

Key Duties

  • Conduct patient assessments to establish dietary guidelines.
  • Review medical orders and develop individualized nutrition therapy plans.
  • Coordinate with food service staff to ensure diet compliance.
  • Calculate nutritional requirements and manage diet restrictions and drug interactions.
  • Provide education tailored to patient needs about nutrition and treatment impact.
  • Monitor adherence, adjust therapy as needed, and document care plans and patient responses.
  • Plan menus supporting symptom management and nutritional goals.
  • Serve as a nutritional resource for medical and nursing staff.
  • Lead clinical staff, participate in interdisciplinary meetings, and conduct patient rounds.
  • Evaluate food quality and compliance with dietary prescriptions.
  • Perform additional duties such as staff orientation and tray line procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in dietetics or nutrition; 1-2 years healthcare experience.
  • Current state licensure/registration; active membership in nutrition organizations; CNSD preferred.
  • Knowledge of enteral feeding, dietary policies, and excellent communication skills.
  • Professionalism, cultural competence, confidentiality, and accurate record-keeping are essential.
