Part-Time Recreation Assistant

About the role

The Arc of Ocean County is seeking enthusiastic and dependable Recreation Assistants to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Aid individuals with disabilities during recreational, social, and community-based activities.
• Support and participate in group outings, special events, and recreational programs throughout Ocean County.
• Facilitate activities such as fitness programs, arts and crafts, cooking groups, dances, seasonal events, and community excursions.
• Encourage active participation, social engagement, and relationship-building among participants.
• Provide supervision and support to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience during all activities.
• Transport participants using agency vehicles when required.
• Promote community inclusion, independence, and positive social interactions.
• Serve as a positive role model while supporting individuals in achieving recreational and social goals.
• Work collaboratively with recreation staff and supervisors to ensure successful program implementation.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid New Jersey driver's license in good standing required, with no more than five (5) points.
• Prior experience supporting individuals with disabilities strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated employment stability preferred, including at least one (1) year with a previous employer.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
