Part-time Recreation Assistant

About the role

The Recreation Assistant works with the Therapeutic Recreation Director to develop and execute therapeutic recreational programs for residents, ensuring compliance with regulations, promoting resident participation, and supporting resident rights and well‑being.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the development and execution of therapeutic recreational services for all residents under supervision.
• Help ensure the highest quality recreation program is provided.
• Assist in developing a full range of therapeutic recreational programs and activities considering residents’ physical and emotional limitations and individual interests.
• Ensure observance of religious days, social events, national holidays, and traditional celebrations when planning the residents’ calendar of events.
• Utilize community support to establish volunteer programs and intergenerational events.
• Encourage resident participation in therapeutic recreational activities.
• Carry out activities appropriate to each resident’s level of functioning.
• Know and comply with the Residents’ Bill of Rights.
• Through the Resident Council, advise and instruct residents on issues and changes pertaining to the Residents’ Bill of Rights and their responsibilities.
• Maintain confidentiality and privacy in reporting Resident Council minutes and care plan issues.
• Report immediately to supervisor all resident grievances and complaints.
• Foster a feeling of self‑worth and respect by treating residents with kindness and understanding.

Requirements

• Must have a vehicle and a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
• Ability to provide weekend coverage of recreation activities.

Qualifications

• Preferred: at least one year of experience in a rehabilitative or geriatric setting.
