About the role
This position involves performing a variety of clerical duties in an office setting, supporting the operations of the police department.
Responsibilities
- Receives and screens visitors and telephone calls for the police department.
- Reviews department records for pertinent information.
- Provides courteous and expeditious customer service to police personnel, City department staff, other law enforcement personnel, and the general public.
- Typing, formatting, editing, proofreading, filing, gathering, and compiling correspondence, reports, forms, and other documents related to the functions of the police department.
- Maintaining radio contact with units in the field.
- Keeps computer logs of all department activities.
- Processes, completes, and maintains department records and forms.
- Processes currency and issues receipts.
- May process permits and licenses.
- May assist in the compilation of figures and statistics.
- Performs a variety of clerical work involving use of independent judgment, accuracy, and speed.
- Remember and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
- Furnish routine information to the public tactfully and courteously.
- Perform duties without direct supervision.
Requirements
- Completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent.
- One-year office experience in a clerical position requiring public contact.
Qualifications
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license from the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
- Knowledge of basic computer terminal operation methods and office software.
- Record-keeping methods.
- Modern office methods, equipment, and procedures.
- Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Filing systems and procedures.
Skills
- Ability to operate radio transmitting communication equipment.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Deal with the general public in a positive and professional manner.
