Assistant Teacher/Aide in the Ansonia Early Start CT Program (part-time).

Requirements

• CDA and/or enrollment in an Early Childhood Education credential program, or
• Degree in Early Childhood Education, or
• Another degree with 12 Early Childhood Education credits.
• If not fully meeting the above at time of hire, must be working toward meeting this goal within the first year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Responsibility to the Classroom Teacher: Carry out duties and assignments as instructed by the Teacher; inform the Teacher of observations on the needs of the children.
• Assist the Teacher in maintaining the NAEYC classroom portfolio.
• Implementation of the Daily Program: Assist Teachers with classroom activities and routines; conduct activities aligned with children’s interests and abilities; set up centers; prepare materials and supplies; help with general cleaning and organizational tasks.
• Responsibility for Children:
  • Consider individual children in relation to their cultural and socioeconomic background.
  • Treat all children with dignity and respect.
  • Help children become aware of their roles as integral members of a group.
  • Assist in ongoing evaluation procedures by observing and recording learning experiences, collecting work samples, and photo documentation.
  • Supervise children when the Teacher is out of the room, following Indoor and Outdoor Supervision Policies in the Policy and Procedure Handbook.
  • Maintain an adult-to-child ratio of 1:10 or better at all times.
• Professional Growth:
  • Participate in monthly staff meetings.
  • Complete all required trainings (First Aid, CPR, Administration of Medication, Epi-pen, OSHA, Nutrition, Serving Children with Disabilities, Pre-Literacy, Diversity, Curriculum and Assessment, Ethical Conduct, plus two additional Early Childhood Education topics).
  • Participate in recommended training programs, courses, and conferences.
  • Learn and follow ECERS, NAEYC, and Early Start CT policies/guidelines.
