About the Role
Assistant Teacher/Aide supporting the Ansonia Early Start CT Pre-Kindergarten program.
Qualifications
- Current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential and/or enrollment in an Early Childhood Education credential program, or
- Degree in Early Childhood Education, or
- Another degree with at least 12 Early Childhood Education credits.
If not fully qualified at time of hire, must commit to completing the required credential or credits within the first year of employment.
Responsibilities
- Classroom Support
- Carry out duties and assignments as instructed by the Lead Teacher.
- Report observations on children’s needs to the Teacher.
- Assist the Teacher in maintaining the NAEYC classroom portfolio.
- Daily Program Implementation
- Assist the Teacher with classroom activities and routines.
- Conduct developmentally appropriate activities aligned with children’s interests and abilities.
- Set up learning centers and prepare materials and supplies.
- Help with general cleaning and organizational tasks.
- Child Guidance & Supervision
- Respect each child’s cultural and socioeconomic background.
- Treat all children with dignity and respect.
- Help children understand their roles as members of a group.
- Assist in ongoing developmental assessments by observing, recording learning experiences, collecting work samples, and documenting with photos.
- Supervise children according to Indoor and Outdoor Supervision Policies when the Teacher is out of the room.
- Maintain an adult-to-child ratio of 1:10 or better at all times.
- Professional Development
- Attend monthly staff meetings.
- Complete all required trainings: First Aid, CPR, Administration of Medication, Epi-pen, OSHA, Nutrition, Serving Children with Disabilities, Pre-Literacy, Diversity, Curriculum and Assessment, Ethical Conduct, plus two additional Early Childhood Education topics.
- Participate in recommended training programs, courses, and conferences.
- Learn and follow ECERS, NAEYC, and Early Start CT policies and guidelines.
