About the role
This part-time position is within the Immunization Program of the Health Department located in Warren.
Responsibilities
- Provides direct nursing care in an assigned area, using appropriate authorized nursing skills.
- Teaches, consults, and acts as public health resource person to individuals, families, community groups, and other health care professionals.
- Documents appropriate data, activities, and outcomes in client records, utilizing the required recording format.
- Works with clients to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, and resolve problems.
- Assists in coordinating the activities of an assigned clinic and/or program area.
- Participates on selected agency committees as directed.
- Participates in the orientation of staff.
- Generates, evaluates, and chooses the best alternative in order to make a determination, draw conclusions, or solve a problem.
- Operates an automobile to perform assigned job functions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing.
- Licensed by the Michigan Board of Nursing to practice as a Registered Nurse, or be in the process of securing Michigan licensure.
- Minimum of one (1) year of professional nursing experience.
- Previous public health or community health nursing experience is preferred.
Skills
- Knowledge of nursing principles and practices, and assigned clinical or programmatic practices.
- Proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other technology applications.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated decision-making ability and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate highly complex information to people with varying levels of knowledge.
- Effectively speak, write, and understand the English language.
- Ability to speak and understand a language other than English (Bosnian, Serbian, Croatian) is preferred.
- Adapt behavior or work methods in response to new information, changing conditions, or unexpected situations.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other professionals, clients, and the public.
- Conduct oneself with tact and courtesy.
