Primary Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provide appropriate individual health care and education to Deerfield students and employees.
  • Follow written and/or verbal orders per the Health Center Physician (MD) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) as per nursing standard of practice.
  • Triage injuries, active management of sports injuries, assessment and treatment of both outpatients and inpatients, and psychotropic medications administration.
  • Independently recognize emergency situations and initiate appropriate intervention and treatment, sending the student to the hospital as appropriate and calling for extra help as needed.
  • Maintain a high level of nursing care, following professional nursing standards and abiding by the Health Center’s policies, procedures and Standing Orders with emphasis on clinical safety, quality and effective communication.
  • Provide a professional, compassionate approach towards all students, their families, employees, and all others involved with the health and well-being of the students.
  • Comply with all HIPAA policies and regulations.
  • Document thoroughly and appropriately in the Health Center’s electronic medical record system.
  • Draw blood, calls in prescriptions, dispense medications, administer immunizations and perform other medical procedures and tests as deemed necessary, and as ordered by the MD/NP.

Job Specifications

  • Associates Degree in Nursing required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred, from an accredited school.
  • 1 - 3 years clinical nursing experience, preferably with adolescents in a health care setting.
  • Valid Massachusetts RN license.
  • CURRENT BLS certification.

  • Able to be flexible.
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Able to work with a wide range of people in a diplomatic and professional manner.
  • Able to use a computer, MS Office suite, and EHR system.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion and to serving the needs of a diverse community.
  • Sensitivity to managing and handling highly confidential information.

Physical Demands

  • Close visual acuity to view a computer terminal and reports.
  • Frequent bending and lifting.
  • Occasional exposure to biohazardous materials and body waste.
