Part-time Public Area Attendant

About the Role

The Public Area Attendant at The Ritz-Carlton, Chicago is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, appearance, and overall presentation of the hotel’s public spaces. You will ensure lobbies, hallways, elevators, restrooms, and other guest areas are consistently maintained to the highest standards, reflecting The Ritz-Carlton’s legendary hospitality.

Responsibilities

• Maintains cleanliness and order in lobby and common guest areas.
• Provides prompt and courteous service to guests.
• Maintains parking lot and public space cleanliness.
• Completes daily, weekly, and quarterly cleaning checklists.
• Dusts and polishes furniture, fixtures, thresholds, baseboards, railings, elevators, stairwells, and window frames.
• Vacuums and spot cleans carpeting, upholstery, and drapery.
• Removes gum from surfaces.
• Cleans and shines all glass and metal surfaces.
• Empties trash receptacles, polishes them, replaces trash bags, and removes trash to dumpster.
• Cleans offices as assigned.
• Cleans public restrooms and stocks them with supplies.
• Cleans public and service elevators (inside and out).
• Completes all restocking and cleaning duties by performing opening and closing side work as instructed.
• Maintains a clean and professional appearance with a cheerful and courteous demeanor at all times.
• Notifies housekeeping leadership, maintenance department, or MOD of malfunctioning equipment, needed supplies, or damage to floor coverings/upholstery.
• Attends all departmental meetings to enhance communication and gain knowledge of products, services, and facilities.
• Responds to customer inquiries and comments in person and by phone, providing timely and knowledgeable information.
• Follows all safety guidelines to ensure the protection of self, associates, and guests.

Requirements

• No formal education required.
• Previous experience in sanitation or customer service preferred.
• Ability to meet standard appearance and cleaning standards.
• Basic understanding of cleaning methods, implements, and chemicals.

Physical Demands

• Lifting cleaning supplies up to 30 lbs., pushing and pulling equipment (30–50 lbs.), and carrying supplies up to 30 lbs. (frequently during shift).
• Bending to start machines and load chemicals (frequently during shift).
• Ability to stand and walk behind floor care equipment for a full shift; continuous standing may be required.
• No driving required.

Pay

$22 – $24 hourly.
