Part Time Pool - Counselor (D.S.P.&S./A.R.C)

About the Role

Under administrative leadership, part-time faculty perform tasks supporting the visions, missions, and values of the colleges and District. Responsibilities include classroom instruction, student evaluation, curriculum development, student advising, professional development, and assignment-specific needs within the Accessibility Resource Center (A.R.C.).

Responsibilities

• Interpret, articulate, and implement regulations, policies, and procedures related to community college Disabled Student Programs and Services (DSPS).
• Work with adults who have disabilities, including acquired brain injury, intellectual disabilities, hearing impairment, learning disabilities, mobility impairments, psychological disability, speech and language disabilities, and visual disabilities.
• Assign appropriate academic accommodations to disabled students based on their educational limitations and academic needs.
• Utilize assistive technology to accommodate disability conditions.
• Interpret Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), medical, psychological, and rehabilitation reports.
• Develop educational and career plans at the community college or university level.
• Provide personal and crisis counseling to individuals and groups.
• Counsel students about community college options, including certificate programs, associate’s degrees, and transfer pathways to four-year institutions.

Requirements

The minimum qualifications for service as a community college counselor of students with disabilities include one of the following:

• Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling, counseling, guidance counseling, student personnel, clinical or counseling psychology, education counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, marriage, family and child counseling.
• Bachelor’s degree in marriage and family therapy or in marriage, family and child counseling, plus possession of a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT).

Additionally, candidates must meet one of the following:

• Fifteen or more semester units in upper division or graduate-level coursework specifically related to people with disabilities.
• Completion of six semester units, or the equivalent, of a graduate-level counseling practicum or fieldwork courses in a post-secondary Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS) Program or a program dealing predominantly or exclusively with people with disabilities.
• Two years of full-time experience, or the equivalent, in:
  • Counseling for students with disabilities; or
  • Counseling in industry, government, public agencies, military, or private social welfare organizations where responsibilities were predominantly or exclusively for persons with disabilities.

Pay

Starting salary range: $50.32 - $61.17 per hour (Class II, step 1 to Class VI, step 1) based on the Adjunct, Overload and Substitute Salary Schedule. View the complete salary schedule.
