Part Time Patient Access Representative

About the role

The Patient Access Representative is a key position at Mercy, serving as the initial point of contact for patients. This role involves facilitating all aspects of patient entry into Mercy facilities, including scheduling, registration, benefit verification, pre-certification, and financial clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate patient entrance into Mercy facilities
  • Schedule and register patients
  • Verify patient insurance benefits and pre-certify services
  • Ensure accurate patient data is entered into the patient record
  • Work with insurance carriers and comply with Medicare guidelines and federal/state regulations

Requirements

  • 1-3 years clerical experience and customer service experience preferred
  • Experience with medical terminology and insurance plans preferred
  • High School diploma required; some college helpful
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, with excellent telephone etiquette
  • Positive working relationships with patients, physicians, clinical and non-clinical hospital staff, and insurance companies
  • Knowledgeable and experienced with various computers systems, including 10-key calculators and computer keyboards
  • Prolonged standing and walking during each shift, along with the ability to push/pull/lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis
  • Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a High School diploma and some college education, with 1-3 years of clerical and customer service experience. Experience with medical terminology and insurance plans is preferred. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential, along with the ability to work under stress and meet deadlines.
