Part-Time Office Assistant, TJC North
About the role
The Office Assistant plays an integral role in supporting the daily operations of TJC North. This individual will contribute to the site’s daily operations, serving as the primary point of contact for students, staff, and visitors during their shift. The ideal candidate should have excellent communication and customer service skills and a strong attention to detail. This is a part-time position working up to 18 hours per week.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine walkthroughs to ensure the building is safe, clean, and operational; report issues to appropriate personnel.
- Serve as the initial point of contact for TJC North by answering phones, greeting visitors, managing the department email inbox, and collaborating with various departments within TJC.
- Perform office duties such as ordering and storing supplies/swag, copying, printing, and maintaining an organized workspace.
- Assist with events relating to academic programs, workshops, or other special events at TJC North; coordinate with faculty and staff to address program needs during operational hours.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- One year of experience in an administrative, customer service, or campus support role (two years preferred).
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
- Basic computer skills, including email, Microsoft Office, and familiarity with office equipment (e.g., printers, phones).
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and handle multiple tasks.
- Customer service skills with a friendly, approachable demeanor.
- Flexibility to work varying shifts, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, as needed.
- Must exhibit sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, as well as staff and students with disabilities.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Work may be required outside of normal business hours and is performed in an environment that may include regular exposure to animals.
- Physical demands include sitting, walking, standing, repetitive typing, and lifting (~35 lbs).
- No travel required; if travel is needed, a current, valid Texas driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required.
