Responsibilities

• Responds to and initiates care for medical emergencies throughout the facility
• Identifies patient health problems and prescribes treatment under the direction of a physician
• Implements medical care utilizing therapeutic regimens approved by a Physician
• Provides education to inmate/patient, healthcare staff, and correctional staff
• Documents all healthcare contacts
• Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills
• Follows security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications
• Delegates to and supervises other team members as appropriate
• Adheres to Universal Precautions and other appropriate infection control practices
• Attends training and meetings as required

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited college/university NP / PA program
• Must possess current licenses or certifications in the state of employment
• Maintains required annual licensure and credentialing requirements for physician assistants / Nurse Practitioner in the healthcare unit
