Part Time Medical Assistant Float

Duties

  • Take patient history and obtain vital signs
  • Perform basic testing or screenings such as: vision, audio, urine drug screens, breath alcohol, EKGs, pulmonary function testing
  • Accurately complete corresponding paperwork/computer work for lab tests ordered on blood, urine, tissue, and culture samples
  • Able to perform subcutaneous, intradermal, and intramuscular injections and accurately complete paperwork according to policy for that procedure
  • Perform point of care testing such as: strep, mono, glucose, influenza, Urine pregnancy, Urinalysis, blood glucose levels
  • Dispense and document medications and other treatment modalities
  • Ensure sterile technique, instrument cleaning and sterilization, proper use of the autoclave
  • Schedule and coordinate necessary records for ancillary care for patients
  • Assist providers with exams and testing (pelvic exams, eye irrigations and ear irrigations, I & D's and splinting/ ortho-glass preparation)
  • Perform occupational medicine testing such as: urine drug screens, breath alcohol testing, audiogram, and DOT physicals
  • Maintain confidentiality with all patient information (HIPAA)
  • Ensure equipment is in working order. Report equipment malfunctions to manager
  • Log laboratory procedures completed. Process related paperwork using computer equipment as directed
  • Handle patient call backs, schedule physician referrals; specialist's referrals and pharmacy issues; and patient’s education
  • Maintain examination rooms, sterilize equipment and stock necessary medical supplies
  • Perform duties to ensure good patient flow
  • Register patients, explain accepted insurances and pricing, properly collect and record payments, complete registration screen in a timely manner
  • Travel to care centers within designated region
  • Protect patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal information
  • Clean and stock the site with other members of the team
  • Train other team members

Requirements

  • 1-2 years previous experience working in a physician practice or clinic setting is preferred
  • Basic computer skills, including the use of Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
  • Ability to function independently without close supervision, and to consistently exercise discretion and the highest level of good clinical and other professional judgment
  • Ability to complete and maintain CPR certification
