About the role
Fresh Thyme Farmers Market is seeking a Meat & Seafood Clerk to keep our store’s meat cases stocked and clean during business hours, assist customers with a friendly and energetic demeanor, and uphold all procedural guidelines set by the Meat Department. Responsibilities
- Ensure cleanliness of meat and seafood cases, storage areas, and work areas, including cleaning shelves and products, keeping floors free of spills, removing hazardous debris, and sweeping.
- Stock meat and seafood cases according to department schematics, ensuring proper product presentation, facing, filling, organization, tag accuracy, and pricing.
- Monitor product rotation, paying particular attention to expired stock.
- Respond to customer inquiries, assist with purchases, provide product information, and support selling and cross-selling at the meat counter.
- Receive, inspect, and log incoming products for accuracy of shipment, temperature, and quality.
- Monitor point-of-purchase signs and ensure availability of recipe cards, product coupons, promotional materials, and information on complementary foods.
- Operate and use equipment such as knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
- Maintain proper temperatures at all stages during the production of meat and seafood items.
- Prepare various meat and seafood products using appropriate ingredients and cooking times.
- Maintain organization, stacking, and rotation of all meat products in the cooler and freezer.
- Use scales, weight measures, and tares to accurately weigh and label meat products; follow proper dating procedures for packaging and wrapping.
- Adhere to safety practices and care when using cutting accessories; comply with the use of mesh gloves while using knives.
- Participate in pre-inventory preparation, including back stock and ensuring tags match products.
- Sustain a high level of product knowledge and preparation.
- Walk the department regularly to ensure an organized, sanitary, and clean appearance at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency degree.
- Preferred: 1–2 years of grocery retail experience in meat department processes and procedures.
- Previous experience in a natural foods industry is a plus.

- Understand COOL compliance for seafood products, including country of origin for various products.

Pay
This role generally starts between $14.50 and $16.00 per hour, with raises occurring in accordance with Fresh Thyme Market’s plan policy. The actual rate offered will meet or surpass the legal wage requirement for the job’s location.
