Part-Time Library Custodian

About the role

Part‑time night/weekend library custodian for the Town of Weston, MA. Most work is performed indoors, with occasional outdoor duties for snow removal and grounds maintenance. The position involves general cleaning, room set‑up, and snow removal for the main library and one branch.

Responsibilities

• Perform general cleaning of library interior spaces.
• Set up rooms for events and programs.
• Remove snow and maintain exterior grounds (including branch).
• Respond to weather‑related emergencies and work beyond normal hours for special events.
• Perform occasional outdoor work in rain, snow, or other weather conditions.
• Handle exposure to fumes from standard cleaners, loud noise from equipment, and moving mechanical parts.

Requirements

• Ability to lift or carry items weighing up to 50 pounds without difficulty.
• Dependable, able to work with minimal supervision.
• Willing to shift hours and be on call for snow removal.
• Flexibility in scheduling is important.
• Moderate physical effort required: speak, hear, stand, walk, reach, kneel, bend or stoop, crouch, climb or balance, push/pull, use hands to operate equipment, climb/use ladder, stoop, bend, drive a motor vehicle, reach with hands and arms.
• Vision requirements include color vision and ability to read routine documents.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Six months of experience in custodial and maintenance work (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• Valid Massachusetts motor vehicle operator’s license.
• Must pass a CORI check.

Pay

$28.42 per hour (non‑benefitted position).

Schedule

• Two or more evenings per week, 5 PM–9 PM.
• One weekend day (Saturday) per week for 4 hours.
• Occasional on‑call snow removal hours.
• Maximum of 19 hours per week.
