Part-Time Lecturer - Institutional Leadership and the Public Manager
Responsibilities
The School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities seeks applicants to teach PPUA 6507: Institutional Leadership and the Public Manager at its Arlington, Virginia (National Capital/Washington, DC area) campus. Part-time instructors are needed to teach this core graduate course examining the problems and techniques relevant to effective management of a public agency in a complicated and often turbulent political environment. The course covers legislative relations, media relations, the role of the courts, unions and advocacy groups, policy implementation and evaluation, and setting and working with high standards of integrity. Instructors will support our NASPAA-accredited Master of Public Administration program. Given our Arlington location, emphasis on federal agency leadership, congressional relations, and executive branch management challenges is particularly valuable. Teaching will be in a traditional classroom on our Arlington, Virginia campus, with classes meeting in the evening to accommodate working professionals.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. degree in Public Administration, Public Policy, Public Management, Political Science, or related disciplines is preferred.
- Advanced (masters) degree with significant professional experience in public sector leadership, agency management, or executive-level public administration may be considered.
- Experience in senior-level public sector positions, legislative affairs, media relations, or federal agency leadership is highly desirable.
- College-level Teaching Experience Is Preferred.
- Professional experience in federal agencies, state or local government executive positions, or nonprofit leadership roles is a plus.

Pay Range
The rate per credit is $2,085.
