About the role

The Department of Computer Science at San José State University seeks a faculty member to teach an equivalent of 15 weighted teaching units (WTUs) each semester, primarily through teaching courses and administrative/service duties. The successful candidate will demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a diverse student population.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses ranging from 3 to 15 WTUs per semester.
  • Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Teach on the SJSU campus in late afternoon and evening hours as needed by the department.
  • Engage with a diverse student population through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.

Requirements

  • PhD in computer science or a closely related field with minimum of five years of professional experience including teaching.
  • Strong commitment to teaching excellence and broad knowledge of computer science or data science.
  • Demonstrated ability in written and oral use of the English language.
  • Ability to teach on the SJSU campus in late afternoon and evening hours as needed by the department.

Qualifications

  • L-A: MSc in computer science or a closely related field with minimum of two years of teaching experience.
  • L-B: MSc in computer science or a closely related field with minimum of five years of professional experience including teaching; or Ph.D. in computer science or a closely related field.
  • L-C: MSc in computer science or a closely related field with minimum of nine years of professional experience including teaching; or Ph.D. in computer science or a closely related field with minimum of five years of professional experience including teaching.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in computer science or a closely related field.
  • Teaching experience at SJSU or similar institutes.

Pay

Range salaries above are the anticipated monthly salary rate of full-time AY faculty--part-time rates are prorated. There are 6 monthly payments per semester (full-time AY annual salary = rate x 12). See the Faculty Salary Schedule for more information.

Schedule

The work for this faculty position is located in the State of California and requires commuting to the campus.
