Part-Time Kinesiology Instructor (Pool)

This is a part-time, associate faculty pool position. Applications are continually accepted and reviewed on an as-needed basis. If selected for an interview, you will be contacted by a District representative.

About the Role

This position involves teaching lecture-discussion courses in kinesiology, which may be scheduled during the day, evening, or on Saturdays, and may include online/distance education formats. Assignments are as needed during the Spring, Summer, and/or Fall semesters. The position is represented by the West Valley-Mission Federation of Teachers (WVMFT / AFT Local 6554). Work location is Mission College, Santa Clara, CA.

Pay

Salary is based on a percentage of workload, up to a maximum of 67% of a full-time load. Pay is prorated based on an initial hiring salary range of $36,191 – $52,297 per semester, determined by academic achievement, teaching, and related experience.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree in kinesiology, physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise, or adaptive physical education; OR
• Bachelor’s degree in any of the above fields AND a master’s degree in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration, or physical therapy; OR
• A valid California Community College Instructor’s Credential in Kinesiology; OR
• The equivalent of the above.

Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty, and staff.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience teaching a variety of classes at the community college level.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction for assigned courses, including preparation for in-class or online/distance education activities, evaluation of students’ work, and consultation with students outside of class.
• Maintain accurate class and other records required by the college.
• Submit attendance rosters and grade reports when due.
• Follow course outlines as filed in the instruction offices.
• Maintain office hours each week (0.5 hours per week per section).
• Observe, support, and enforce the regulations, policies, and programs of the District and college.
• Provide each student with a written course syllabus at the beginning of the course, as per instructions in the Faculty Handbook.
• Refer students to appropriate college sources for counseling and other student services.
• Assist students by providing advice on requirements for successful achievement in the instructor’s area of expertise.
• Work cooperatively within the college community.
• Foster an environment that protects academic freedom within the college community.
• Foster a positive working environment free from harassment, prejudice, and/or bias.
• Demonstrate respect for the dignity of each individual.

Transcripts are required if a minimum requirement is possession of a degree. Degrees must be awarded by a college or university accredited by a recognized accrediting body. Candidates with degrees earned outside the United States must provide official certification of equivalency to U.S. degrees by a certified U.S. credential review service, including a course-by-course evaluation of transcripts. Only electronic versions of transcripts will be accepted; they must not be encrypted, secured, or password-protected.
