Part Time Instructor - Sterile Processing Technician

Position Summary

The Sterile Processing Instructor’s primary responsibility is to design, develop, and deliver training programs that equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to work in sterile processing departments within healthcare facilities. The instructor will educate students on industry standards, regulations, and best practices for maintaining aseptic environments and ensuring the safe and effective sterilization of medical instruments.

Position responsibilities

  • Curriculum Development:

    • Develop and update curriculum content related to sterile processing, ensuring alignment with industry standards, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
    • Create lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments to facilitate effective learning.
    • Counsel students on proper techniques for instrument cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization.
    • Administer exams, quizzes, and practical assessments to evaluate students' understanding of sterile processing principles.
    • Oversee practical training in laboratory settings, providing guidance and support to students as they practice sterile processing procedures.
    • Monitor and assess students' hands-on skills, providing constructive feedback for improvement.
    • Stay abreast of advancements in sterile processing technology, infection control, and related healthcare practices.
    • Integrate current industry trends and developments into the curriculum as appropriate.
  • Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., healthcare, education) or equivalent experience.
    • Current certification required from either the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM), Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA), or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, Inc. (CBSPD).
    • Teaching or training experience is desirable.
    • Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards (e.g., AAMI, CDC, OSHA).
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Work Environment

Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. No or very limited physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

Salary Range & Fringe Benefits

  • Salary position paying $30.00/hour for up to 19 hours per week

  • Worker’s compensation

  • Limited Part-Time Retirement Plan
