About the Role
Wake Technical Community College is seeking to expand our pool of part-time faculty to teach courses in Workforce Continuing Education Services for Cosmetology. Openings for these positions may not exist at the present time; however upon review of your qualifications, you may be contacted directly by the department on an as needed basis. Part-time (adjunct) faculty positions provide quality, effective instruction in assigned courses on a part-time, temporary basis.
Locations: Beltline Education Center and the Women's Correctional Facility.
Responsibilities
- Instructs and guides the class in an efficient and effective manner including theory and clinical instruction
- Prepares thoroughly for each instructional hour
- Guarantees safe and sanitary practices by both students and instructors when practicing cosmetology and related sciences
- Ensures client satisfaction by effectively managing clinic floor, counseling and guiding students, and assisting in resolving students issues
- Works closely with Instructor/Director to assist with overseeing daily operations and activities
- Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment
- Grades and returns student work in a timely manner
- Counsels students regarding their grades and progress in the course
- Constructs classroom materials that support the goals of the course
- Maintains accurate records of student work and attendance
- Coordinates and administers reporting of student's hours and student projects
- Designs curriculum and a schedule of instruction
- Maintains regular office hours
- Stays abreast of most current teaching methods and technology in the classroom
- Uses assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching
- Serves on college or department committees as needed
- Attends professional development opportunities when possible and attends meetings and conferences as assigned by administration
- Assists with establishing goals and objectives for the course, selecting text and constructing a syllabus
- Maintains communication with instructors from other divisions in order to keep courses up-to-date and appropriate
- Contacts students when class is canceled or postponed
- Locates a substitute instructor for requested time off
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of and facility with technology and software including computers, and web-based resources such as Moodle
- Able to perform normal duties with minimal supervision
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Demonstrates resourcefulness, initiative, enthusiasm, and a sincere interest in helping students reach their maximum potential
Requirements
- Associate's degree
- Current NC Natural Hair Care License or NC Cosmetology License
- Current NC Natural Hair Care Instructor License or NC Cosmetology Instructor License
- Two years salon experience in Natural Hair Care or Cosmetology
- Two years teaching experience in Natural Hair Care
