About the role
This position is responsible for the overall supervision and operation of the softball program, including supervision of assistant coaches, oversight and development of team schedules, potential student-athlete recruitment, and other duties as assigned. The Part-time Head Coach - Softball supervises the Assistant Softball Coach and reports to the Athletic Director.
Responsibilities
- Comply with the rules and regulations of the NJCAA and Region 16 as they relate to the softball program.
- Coordinate student-athlete recruitment activities, including tracking the admissions and eligibility process for recruited student-athletes.
- Schedule and supervise all practices and games, and submit statistics to Region XVI and the NJCAA national office.
- Make travel arrangements for the softball team, including requesting meal money advances and providing itemized receipts and group travel summaries.
- Encourage academic success, retention, and graduation of student-athletes by monitoring study hall hours, obtaining faculty feedback, and promoting graduation.
- Supervise volunteers with the softball team and ensure timely submission of a Volunteer Agreement to Human Resources annually.
- Maintain equipment and facilities related to the softball program.
- Provide timely publicity and schedule updates to the Director of Marketing.
- Develop and participate in fundraising activities for the Athletic Department.
- Participate in athletic committee meetings, staff meetings, and mandatory coaches' meetings held by Region XVI and the NJCAA national office.
- Coordinate all aspects of the softball program budget with the Athletic Director in a fiscally responsible manner.
- Participate in the annual athletic recognition program.
- Submit a mid-year and end-of-year program summary to the Athletic Director.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree.
- Three (3) years of experience coaching high school or intercollegiate softball.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree.
- 18 graduate semester hours in a teaching discipline from a regionally accredited institution.
- Community college and NJCAA experience.
- Ability to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) class C with P (passenger) endorsement within one year of employment.
