About the Role

WIN Waste Innovations is looking for a Fuel and Ash Handler II to monitor and operate auxiliary equipment, ensuring safe, efficient, and continuous plant operations. This role involves performing maintenance and minor repairs to ash handling, tipping floor, and other assigned auxiliary systems.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and operate light mobile equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, aerial platforms, sweepers, and golf carts in support of facility operations and maintenance.
  • Perform fueling activities for equipment operations.
  • Handle materials including combined ash, residue, non-ferrous metals, and ferrous metals; may involve loading trucks for shipment.
  • Support facility outages through boiler cleaning, including areas such as APC equipment ducts, grates, ash extractors, and conveyor cleanouts; scaffold cleaning as required.
  • Apply mechanical knowledge and skills to perform routine tasks such as opening vessels and equipment access doors, placing and removing furnace access equipment, operating power tools, and performing minor repairs to plant equipment and structures.
  • Perform light maintenance including plumbing, masonry, pipe fitting, small engine maintenance, carpentry, and use of manual and power hand tools.
  • Maintain and follow all company environmental compliance, health, and safety requirements, policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Complete all required Environmental Management System and Compliance Training.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area at all times.
  • Shovel loose materials such as sand, gravel, metals, plastics, or chemicals into machine hoppers or into vehicles and containers like wheelbarrows, scrap trucks, or barrels.
  • Support plant housekeeping, painting, and preservation needs, including shoveling, sweeping, mopping, hosing, squeegeeing, and operating floor machines.
  • Maintain a positive work environment by communicating effectively with customers, clients, vendors, co-workers, and management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.
  • Mechanical abilities sufficient to perform equipment maintenance, minor repairs, and general preventative maintenance.

  • Noise: Work environment may be noisy.
  • Physical Demands:
    • Stand and sit for prolonged periods.
    • Walk and handle tools and equipment requiring fine motor skills.
    • Reach with hands and arms.
    • Climb and walk on heights often greater than 4 feet.
    • Stoop, kneel, bend, push, pull, and crawl.
    • Ascend and descend stairs and stationary vertical ladders as part of normal work and emergency egress.
    • Lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Move about all areas of the plant, including catwalks, deck grating, and uneven surfaces.
    • Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception (corrected or otherwise).
    • Operate a 1.5-inch fire hose at 125 psi line pressure to extinguish fires.
    • Operate fire extinguishing equipment ranging from handheld extinguishers to 200 lb portable units.
    • Access confined spaces and pressure vessels through standard 12" by 16" manways.
  • PPE Required: Work in areas under adverse conditions may require donning and using personal protective equipment, including but not limited to:
    • Negative pressure respirator
    • Positive pressure respirator
    • Self-contained breathing apparatus (steel or composite bottle)
    • Hardhat
    • Approved safety shoes
    • Eye protection
    • Rubber suit and gloves
    • Chemical resistant suit
    • Heat resistant outerwear
