About the role

The College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Rhode Island brings together undergraduate programs across the arts, humanities, sciences, and social sciences. The Department of Sociology and Anthropology seeks part-time faculty to teach sociology courses on a per-course basis. For Fall 2026, we seek someone able to teach SOC100, Introduction to the Sociological Perspective, and/or SOC212, Sociology of the Family. These courses meet in-person on MWF for Fall 2026 and are at the undergraduate level.

Responsibilities

  • Teach one (1) or two (2) courses in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.
  • Hold regular office hours and be available to assist students enrolled in their courses.
  • Stay current in the field of instruction and with pedagogical methods and instructional technologies.
  • Courses are three (3) credits; in-person courses meet for approximately three (3) hours per week over a fourteen (14) week semester.
  • Classes meet during the day at the Kingston campus.

Requirements

  • Master’s or doctoral degree in sociology, or a closely related field with substantial background in sociology at time of application.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching sociology or a closely related field at the college level.
  • Experience teaching in one or more of the following areas: Introductory sociology, sociology of the family at the college level.
