Part-Time Faculty, Sociology
Position Information
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Rhode Island seeks part-time faculty to teach sociology courses on a per-course basis. For Fall 2026, we seek someone able to teach SOC100, Introduction to the Sociological Perspective, and/or SOC212, Sociology of the Family.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A selected candidate will teach one (1) or two (2) courses in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. Part-time faculty are not required to engage in research or service activities but must hold regular office hours and be available to assist students enrolled in their courses. They are expected to stay current in their fields of instruction and with pedagogical methods and instructional technologies. Most courses are three (3) credits. In-person courses meet for approximately three (3) hours per week over the course of an approximately fourteen (14) week semester. Classes meet during the day at the Kingston campus.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Required: Master’s or doctoral degree in sociology, or a closely related field with substantial background in sociology at time of application.
- Preferred: Experience teaching sociology or closely related field at the college level. Experience teaching in one or more of the following areas: Introductory sociology, sociology of the family at the college level.

Part-time faculty are temporary employees under the University’s internal payroll system and are non-state, non-union, non-benefited positions, where the incumbent is at-will and may be subject to termination at any time.
